Ke'e Beach

We drove as far north as the road will take you on Kauai. It happens to take you to Ke'e Beach. There are so many beaches on Kauai that you just have to drive around and find the one that suits your tastes most. Ke'e was not that for us, it was nice, but too crowded. We did pass this cool cave while walking from the car to the beach. Not allowed in that water because of some kind of horrible bacterium living in it...yuck. Matt thought this tree was cool...but quickly noticed all the spiders that also thought the tree looked like a nice place to be.

Wailua Falls

Matt and I drove to Wailua Falls and while it was breathtaking, it seemed almost anticlimactic since you could seemingly only see it from the road, while close, not close enough. So the search for adventure began. We found a grown over path (no fence though) and decided to follow it. It happened to lead us to the top of the falls. Pictures of the possibly illegal adventure shown below.
Looking over the edge!!!!

Matt on the edge (above) and Theresa on the edge (below) (scared out of my mind!)

Notice how we are the only ones crazy (possibly stupid) enough to venture to this point...seeing as we passed a memorial to a girl who died on these falls to get to the path...

Snorkeling Tour

This could sum up our vacation, Matt relaxing on a boat in tropical paradise! We took a Na'Pali Coast catamaran trip where we saw spinner dolphins, sea turtles, and tropical fish. Just look for yourself. Na'Pali Coastline is only accessable by boat, air, or hiking, and looking at the coast line, it would be a tough hike. We tried a short one and it was...uh...fun.

Keahua Forestry Arboretum

Matt and I with the coolest tree I have ever seen (closeup below). It is called a Painted Gum Tree and when the bark peels off, it leaves green or orange bark below. It almost looks camouflaged! We are at the Keahua Forestry Arboretum and we had to walk through a small stream to get here (also pictured below). It was yet another beautiful place on Kauai! Notice a trend here?

Opaeka'a Falls

This is as close as you can get to Opaeka'a Falls without taking a 3 hour (one way) hike up the river. But even from here, it's just beautiful.

Kauai Coast Resort

This is the pool at our hotel. It goes up to the ocean. We relaxed here every afternoon, sometimes taking a nap by the crashing waves. Below is the hammock that Matt relaxed in frequently, when it wasn't taken. And also the view of the ocean from this hammock.

Tree Tunnel

This is known as the tree tunnel. It takes you to Poipu from the main Kuhio Hwy.

Poipu Beach

This is the first beach we drove to. Poipu Beach is located on the southern part of the island. It also has somewhat rough waves, but there is a rock wall that breaks the waves. We ventured in without shoes as anyone would do at a beach, and quickly realized that the sand lasted about 2 feet into the water and abruptly turned into coral and lava rock. Matt received two cuts on his hand and a gash in his leg. I also received injury in the form of a piece of coral stuck into my foot. Yes it hurt and I limped for 2 days after. Outside of that, it was fun...even if it doesn't sound like it.

Kauai Home Videos

Spouting Horn, located on the southern part of Kauai in Poip'u. A hole has been eroded away in the volcanic rock such that when the waves crash against the rock, water shoots up the hole. Its pretty fantastic.

During our Na'Pali Coast boat tour, we saw these spinner dolphins. The reason everyone is screaming is because the captain told us if we scream, they will do jumps and stuff. I think he just wanted to make us scream...

These two are my lame attempt at the hula. It is harder than it looks! We went to a luau that night and unfortunately, I am unable to pass up an offer for something free...this time it was a free hula lesson in front of about 50 strangers. It was fun though. And I got to wear my new Sarong (thats the red thing around my waist, very versatile and traditional attire in Hawaii). FYI, yes that is Matt laughing in the background on video #2, so to follow is a little revenge...

As promised, Matt doing the hula on stage at the luau. Also posted are the professionals doing a Samoan hula. You can tell its Samoan, because they like to slap themselves much more than the Hawaiians and Tongans. Matt performed an Hawaiian hula, starkly contrasted to the Samoan hula. Enjoy! Note, I did not laugh at him...
